The Lamar A Team also traveled across town to take on rival Travis.
The Bearcats showed their ability to strike quickly, as Damien Mitchell broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 6-6.
Defensively, Lamar was aggressive inside, led by Anthony Martin, Armani Velasquez, Raymond Hernandez, and J’Kobe West. Offensively, Mitchell and Velasquez formed a dangerous one-two punch with speed and power, while the offensive line—anchored by Alex Lopez-Lopez, Jaquavius Coulter, and Julian Sanchez Martinez—proved they could be physical up front. However, the Bearcats couldn’t contain Travis’ explosive offense and fell 50-6.
The Bearcats return home next week for their opener against Lake Belton on Tuesday, September 16, at 6:15 PM. This game will also celebrate the naming of Brad Dusek Field.
In between the A and B games, Temple ISD, Lamar Middle School, and the family of Brad Dusek will hold a special ceremony to honor his legacy. Come out and support the Bearcats!
