TEMPLE, TX — It was a challenging night on the hardwood for the Lamar Lady Bearcat 8th grade A team this past Thursday. Playing in front of a home crowd at Lamar Middle School, the Lady Bearcats struggled to find their offensive rhythm against a potent River Valley squad, ultimately falling 49-19.
Despite the lopsled score, the Lady Bearcats showed flashes of resilience and individual brilliance throughout the contest.
Standout Performers
Lamar’s scoring effort was spearheaded by a standout performance from Lyric Lott, who earned Player of the Game honors. Lott was the engine of the Bearcat offense, accounting for over 60% of the team's total points with a gritty 12-point performance.
Joining her in the spotlight was Ariyonna Love-Brown, who contributed 6 points.
Game Breakdown
River Valley jumped out to an early lead, utilizing a high-pressure defense that made it difficult for Lamar to transition into their sets. While the Lady Bearcats found success when feeding Lott and Love-Brown in the half-court, the sheer volume of River Valley’s scoring proved too much to overcome.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Bearcats will have some time to regroup and refine their strategy as they head into a bye week. This break comes at a crucial time for the team to focus on fundamentals and conditioning before hitting the road for their next matchup.
