Lady Bearcats 7th Grade Show Grit at Waco ISD Relays

WACO, TX – The Lamar Middle School 7th Grade Lady Bearcats took to the track this past Wednesday, March 25, competing against a fast field at the Waco ISD Relays. Held at Paul Tyson Field, the meet served as a high-stakes tune-up for the upcoming district season.

Lamar finished in 6th Place in the overall team standings, tallying 15 points. The Robinson Lady Rockets claimed the top spot on the podium with 173 points, followed by Travis in 2nd Place with 114.

Podium Spotlight: Alexandria Soto Leads the Way

The highlight of the evening for the Lady Bearcats came from Alexandria Soto, who secured a silver medal with a stellar performance in the 400 meters. Soto crossed the finish line in 1:15.53 to take 2nd Place. She proved her range later in the day, also securing a 5th Place finish in the 200 meters with a swift time of 29.42.

Top Performers

The Lady Bearcats saw several athletes break into the top ten, earning crucial points and gaining momentum:

Haveene Waller: Showed impressive versatility, taking 4th Place in the 300 hurdles (1:01.65) and 10th Place in the 100 meters (15.46).
Elyana Scott: Battled through the hurdles to take 6th Place in the 100 hurdles (21.81) and competed well in the 400 meters (1:26.64) and 200 meters (32.82).
Ava Bibb: Earned a 7th Place finish in the 300 hurdles with a time of 1:08.16.
Lanigh Stephens: Competed in both hurdle events, taking 7th Place in the 110 hurdles (22.11) and 9th Place in the 300 hurdles (1:11.25).

The Lady Bearcats were represented by a dedicated group of athletes across various sprints, hurdles, and field events:
Alexandria Soto (400m, 200m), Ava Bibb (300h), Elyana Scott (100h, 400m, 200m), Haveene Waller (100m, 300h), Kaleah Ward (100m), Lanigh Stephens (110h, 300h), and Sienna Williams (100m, Long Jump - 10’8 ½).

Looking Ahead: Road to District

The Lady Bearcats will look to build on these performances as they return home to Temple. Their next challenge is the Central Texas District Divisional Meet on April 1st at Wildcat Stadium.

The stakes will be higher than ever, as the Top 4 finishers in each event will qualify for the Central Texas District Track & Field Championships. With several athletes hovering just outside the top spots, the Lady Bearcats are in a prime position to punch their tickets to the big stage.
