TEMPLE, TX — It was a tough night on the pitch for the Lamar Bearcats as they hosted the Midway Middle School Panthers on Thursday evening. Despite a late-game spark of offensive brilliance, the Bearcats fell to a clinical Midway squad with a final score of 6-1 at Brad Dusek Field.
A Steep Hill to Climb
From the opening whistle, the Panthers established a dominant rhythm. Midway’s attacking front found gaps in the Lamar defense early and often, clinical in their finishing to build a commanding lead. By the time the halftime whistle blew, the Bearcats found themselves trailing 4-0.
While the scoreline looked lopsided, the Bearcats refused to let the energy drop in the second half. The defensive unit tightened up, contesting more balls in the midfield, but the Panthers managed to tack on two more goals to extend their lead to six.
Finishing on a High Note
The highlight of the night for the home crowd came in the final minute of play. Refusing to be shut out, Lamar launched a final counter-attack. Matheo Chavana delivered a precise pass to Liam Inzunza, who showcased impressive footwork.
Inzunza skillfully dribbled past a wave of Midway defenders, carving through the box before slotting the ball into the back of the net. The goal served as a testament to the Bearcats' "play to the whistle" mentality, ensuring they walked off the pitch with momentum.
