The Lamar Lady Bearcat 7th Grade A volleyball team faced a tough road matchup on Thursday night, traveling across town to clash with the Travis Science Academy Lady Mustangs. Despite a spirited effort, the Lady Bearcats fell in straight sets, 25-15, 25-16, dropping their early-season record to 0-2.
Travis established control early in the opening set, capitalizing on crisp serve-receive play and fast starts to build a lead Lamar couldn't quite erase. The Lady Bearcats showed plenty of fight in the second game, stringing together impressive rallies and tightening up their defensive communication, but the Lady Mustangs held firm to secure the cross-town sweep.
Two bright spots stood out for Lamar amidst the adversity. Hailey Williams and Melody Everett were named the Lady Bearcat Players of the Match for their standout performances, driving the team's energy with consistent hustle, relentless defense, and clutch plays at the net.
Lamar will look to bounce back and capture their first win of the season on September 10, when they hit the road again to take on South Belton Middle School. First serve in Belton is set for 5:30 PM.
