Staples Claims Top-10 Finish to Lead Lamar Lady Bearcats 7th grade at Summer Finale Meet

CAMERON — The Lamar Middle School 7th Grade Girls Cross Country team showcased strong individual grit on Saturday morning as they competed in the Summer Finale Cross Country Meet, held at Cameron Yoe High School in Cameron.

Lamar Lady Bearcat Performances

Leading the charge for the Lady Bearcats was Aaliyah Staples, who delivered an outstanding Top 20 performance in the 2-mile race. Staples crossed the finish line in 8th place overall with an impressive time of 15:07.49, earning a marquee spot in the top ten among a competitive field of runners.

While Staples represented Lamar in the final individual standings, the Lady Bearcats did not have enough runners to qualify for the official team standings at Saturday's event.

The 2-mile individual race was crowned by Reagan Baze of A&M Consolidated MS, who took first place with a winning time of 13:14.90.

Franklin Middle School claimed the top team spot on the day, placing three runners in the overall Top 7 to edge out A&M Consolidated MS.

Franklin MS — 28 points
A&M Consolidated MS — 41 points
Cameron MS — 65 points

Note: Lamar Middle School did not have enough runners to qualify for the team standings.

Up Next

The Lady Bearcats will now turn their focus to the upcoming postseason meet. Lamar will compete next on October 14 in the Central Texas District Middle School Championships. The championship meet will take place at the HOT Soccer Complex in Waco beginning at 5:00 PM.
