The Lamar 8th Grade football team opened the season with a huge win on the road over North Belton on Tuesday evening by a score of 6-0.
Both teams made multiple defensive stops first half. But Lamar got on the score board late 2nd quarter with a pass from QB Mehki Austin to WR Zyaire Flowers for a 30yd touchdown. The extra point was missed, and Lamar went up 6-0 into the half.
Coming out of the half ,Lamar kicked off and forced a fumble with the momentum shifter by Tomarion Abernathy with the "Big Hit Award" and recovered by Zyaire Flowers. The ensuing Bearcat drive stalled on offense for Lamar, but they made key defensive stops throughout the 3rd quarter.
The 4th quarter was much of the same throughout with Lamar making key defensive stops on 3rd and 4th down with key tackles from Sebastian Flores, Afatasi Saga and Paxton Slay.
Late 4th quarter with under 2 minutes left and North was driving down field to potentially tie the game, the Bearcats came up with a huge defensive stand on 4th down as a big deflection from Cederius Mathis forced a turnover on downs.
Lamar took over on downs and ran the clock with hard nose running back Cruz Martinez who finished with 50 yards rushing on the night. Lamar took a knee ran the clock out and finished with the win. Great game from ALL the Bearcats as they pick up their first win.
