COPPERAS COVE, TX — It was a defensive battle for the ages on Wednesday evening as the Lamar Lady Bearcat 8th Grade B team traveled to Copperas Cove to take on SC Lee Junior High. In a game where every basket felt like a milestone, the Lady Bearcats fought until the final whistle, ultimately falling in a heartbreaker, 4–3.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear that points would be at a premium. Both teams showcased disciplined defensive schemes, forcing contested shots and creating a high-pressure environment that kept the scoreboard quiet for long stretches of the game.
Defensive Standouts
While the offensive rhythm was hard to find, the Lady Bearcats' grit on the other end of the floor kept them within striking distance until the very end. Leading that charge was Raelynn Tanner, who was named the Lady Bearcat Player of the Game. Tanner’s relentless hustle, rebounding, and ability to disrupt SC Lee’s passing lanes earned her the night's top honors and kept Lamar in contention throughout the low-scoring affair.
Despite the narrow loss, the Lady Bearcats showed immense growth in their communication and defensive rotations, holding the Cougars to just two field goals the entire evening.
The Grand Finale
The Lady Bearcats won’t have much time to dwell on the loss as they prepare for the biggest night of the year. Lamar will return home to host Midway for the final game of the season.
It’s "all or nothing" for the Lady Bearcats as they look to close out their middle school basketball chapter with a victory in front of the home crowd.
