Lady Bearcats 7th Grade Show Individual Grit at Burnet Bulldog Relays

BURNET, TX – The Lamar Middle School 7th Grade Lady Bearcat Track & Field team traveled to the Burnet Bulldog Relays on Wednesday, March 11, delivering a series of gritty individual performances at the Burnet Football Field. Facing a tough field of competitors, the Lady Bearcats secured 5th place in the team standings with 21 points.

While host Burnet took 1st place (207 points) and Marble Falls followed in 2nd (123 points), Lamar’s athletes stood out in the sprint and hurdle events, proving they can compete with the best in the region.

Standout Performances

The Lady Bearcats' middle-distance runners and hurdlers provided the highlights of the evening:
Amaya Staples was the high-point performer for Lamar, securing a silver medal in the 400 meters with a blistering time of 1:09.90. She also claimed 5th in the 100m hurdles and 6th in the 200m dash.
Alexandria Soto joined Staples on the podium in the 400 meters, grabbing 3rd place with a strong time of 1:11.32.

Haveene Waller showcased her endurance and technique in the 300m hurdles, earning a 4th-place finish with a time of 1:01.54.

Hurdles

In the 100m Hurdles, Amaya Staples (5th), Elyana Scott (7th), and Lanigh Stephens (7th) all finished within a second of one another. The 300m Hurdles featured Haveene Waller (4th), Ava Bibb (10th), and Lanigh Stephens (11th) battling through the final stretch.
Sprints
In the 100m Dash, Kaleah Ward (12th), Haveene Waller (14th), and Sienna Williams (17th) represented the Lady Bearcats in a crowded field. The 200m Dash featured Amaya Staples (6th), Alexandria Soto (12th), and Elyana Scott (16th).

Middle Distance & Field Events

Amaya Staples (2nd), Alexandria Soto (3rd), and Elyana Scott (12th) led the charge in the 400m Run. In the field, Sienna Williams represented Lamar in the Long Jump, recording a leap of 10’1 to finish 15th overall.

Looking Ahead

The Lady Bearcats will look to build on these individual successes as they return to the practice track this week. Their next opportunity to climb the standings comes on March 25th at the Waco ISD Meet, held at Paul Tyson Field in Waco.
