BURNET, TX – The Lamar Middle School 8th Grade Lady Bearcats hit the track with determination this past Wednesday, March 11, competing against a fast field at the Burnet Bulldog Relays. Held at the Burnet Football Field, the Lady Bearcats secured a 4th place team finish, tallying 24 points on the day.
While the host team, Burnet, took the top spot with 201 points and Llano followed in second with 156, Lamar’s athletes managed to carve out several "podium" moments against stiff competition.
Top Performers
The Lady Bearcats' scoring was highlighted by two standout silver-medal performances in the sprint disciplines. Kayliana Ward blazed through the 100-meter dash, clocking a swift 13.89 to take 2nd Place. Not to be outdone, Lyric Lott showcased her speed in the 200-meter dash, also securing a 2nd Place finish with a time of 29.86.
In the relay events, the 4x100 squad—comprised of Naveah Loper, LaTearra Rivers, Latreasia Gamble, and Lyric Lott—showed great chemistry to take 4th Place with a time of 58.38.

Lamar’s roster saw action across a wide variety of events, from the hurdles to the jump pits. Here is how the Lady Bearcats fared:
Sprints & Middle Distance: In addition to Ward’s silver, Latreasia Gamble (14.63) and Naveah Loper (15.69) represented Lamar in the 100 meters. In the 200 meters, Gamble took 7th place (31.28) and LaTearra Rivers finished 14th (32.67). Carter Caldwell put in a strong effort in the 400 meters, finishing 12th with a time of 1:23.17.
Hurdles: The Lady Bearcats attacked the barriers with LaTearra Rivers leading the way in the 100m hurdles (10th, 21.70). Sh’iara Davis competed in both the 100m (24.23) and 300m hurdles (1:15.00), while Delaney Smith earned a 12th place finish in the 300m hurdles with a time of 1:07.56.
Field Events: Naveah Loper was a dual-threat in the jumps, placing 11th in both the Long Jump (11’11) and the Triple Jump (24’2). Kayliana Ward also doubled up in the field, leaping 8’11 in the Long Jump and 22’10 in the Triple Jump.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Bearcats will look to build on these performances as they prepare for their next challenge. The team will travel to Waco on March 25th for the Waco ISD Meet, held at Paul Tyson Field.
