The Lamar 7th-grade football team opened its season on September 8th in a hard-fought battle against Copperas Cove.

Luis Quezada got Lamar on the board early with a 20-yard touchdown strike in the first quarter. Right before halftime, Kyrin Fowler shifted the momentum with a clutch interception, returning it to the 1-yard line. Though Lamar was unable to punch it in, they stayed right in the hunt, trailing just 8-6 at the break.

The second half turned into a high-powered battle as both teams traded scores. Jakari Jones put on a show, breaking loose for two separate long touchdown runs.
Jones earned Player of the Game honors after delivering a monster performance with over 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Down late, Lamar needed a two-point kick to tie the game, but couldn't convert, bringing the final score to 22-20.

Lamar looks to bounce back on the road when they travel to face Travis on September 14th.
