COPPERAS COVE - Searching for their first win of the season, the Lamar 8th grade football team hit the road to face off against SC Lee in Copperas Cove.
The night got off to a difficult start for Lamar, coughing up a fumble on their opening possession. SC Lee capitalized immediately on the short field to put the first points on the board.
Lamar established a strong ground attack between the tackles powered by Kayden Clark and Joshua Payne, who both ran the ball really well. However, SC Lee's defense locked down the edges, preventing Lamar from getting anything going on the outside.
Defensively, Jervaughn Hudson and Daniel Ruiz wreaked havoc up front, constantly creating pressure in the interior of the defensive line. Major Lee Jr. added another huge highlight, stepping up with a clutch interception to stop an SC Lee drive in its tracks and prevent a score.
Ultimately, turnovers proved to be Lamar's downfall throughout the night. SC Lee pulled away to secure a 58-0 victory.
Lamar enters the bye week focused on correcting mistakes and building for the home stretch. They will return to action on Wednesday, October 14, when they host Lake Belton at Brad Dusek Field in search of their first win.
