The Lamar Middle School 7th Grade Lady Bearcats traveled to John Glover Stadium on Wednesday, March 4, to test their speed and stamina at the Academy Bumblebee Relays. In a massive field featuring 13 competitive programs, the Lady Bearcats secured a 10th-place team finish with 22 total points.
While Lake Belton (124.5) and North Belton (105.5) claimed the top two spots on the podium, Lamar’s small but mighty group of point-scorers made sure the Bearcat name was felt in the sprint and hurdle events.
Top Performers
The Lady Bearcats' scoring was fueled by three standout individual performances that saw Lamar athletes finishing in the top three of their respective heats:
Amaya Staples delivered the highest finish of the day for the team, capturing 2nd Place in the 400 meters with a swift time of 1:08.29.
Havenne Waller showcased her technical skill in the 300-meter hurdles, also earning a 2nd Place medal by crossing the finish line in 57.21.
Miracle Kimbrough held her own in the fastest event of the day, securing 3rd Place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.93.
Meet Summary
Though the team standings reflected the depth of the Belton schools, the Lady Bearcats proved they have the top-end talent to compete with the best in the region. These podium finishes provide a strong foundation as the team looks to shave seconds off their times in the coming weeks.
Look Ahead
The Lady Bearcat track and field season continues next week as the team heads west. They are scheduled to compete in the Burnet Relays in Burnet, Texas, on March 11.
